Plans get made, Plans get changed...

I'm not so good with change, I know that's a sign of age. The ManWhoHoldsMyHeart likes to say "Change is good." I say "Since when?" Most changes make me feel so apprehensive. What was wrong with the old way? Huh? Oh and decisions it takes me minutes, then hours, and sometimes days to make a decision on something. I blame it on hormones, to little or not the right ones or too many!!! I'm post menopausal isn't that to be expected? Ok enough ranting, moving on.
It was suppose to rain today with thunderstorms, but NO just a few sprinkles. Though our old nemissis the wind is here in all it's pompousness, that is a word right? I hear tell that's a sign of spring, the winds, but in Kansas I really think it's just a given. I think the meteorologist was just trying to make us all feel good that spring is on the way. So today I've been doing a little cleaning, some net surfing (catching up on the many blogs I follow), and now some sewing, then later in bed tonight some reading. My plans for today got changed so I'm turning the disappointment into a "me" day. Maybe the ManWhoHoldsMyHeart was right and this change was good, hmmmmm nah I'm still not a believer! Hope your day went as planned!! TTFN

A little bit of this and that =)

A few more houses, and it's become a village!! Welcome to ScRap ToWN!! Hehehe

And more corn and beans too! I'm really enjoying piecing these blocks together. What do you think DD? Is it what you were hoping for, or do you see a color that you'd like to see more or less of????? It's your quilt so you can tell me. As I said on the phone I want to get more lights, in the quilt, of the "whiter" look to make the quilt catch light!
I'm hoping to get some sewing in today as the sun is shining brightly in my window and the weather outside is very blustery. Going to be super windy again :-( At least on this side of the house I can't hear it howling. Willow too has found a place to get "cozy"!!!!!! awwwww that's just too funny!

Breakfast at Bluestem Bistro!!

What a great way to start the day, coffee with #2Son(he's not so happy with being #2 so I'm going to change his name to Theother#1Son, hehe) and TheManwhoholdsmyHeart! We always have an enjoyable family time when we have Sunday morning coffee together :-) The top pic shows our breakfast choices, 1/2 order biscuits and gravy/w sasuage for the guys, plus a cup of egg custard, to share and a scone for me, this one is a triple chocolate scone, it was soooo yummy and black coffees all around. The next picture is the live music, usually a jazz band featured on Sunday mornings. The vocalist was very good, plus she could whistle, something I've never been able to get my lips around. Their selections are relaxed in keeping with a slow sort of ease you into the day kinda way. The 3rd pic is the handsome company I shared my special Sunday morning with!!!!! Always a good time, I loved every minute guys!!!!!!!

Valentine's Dinner was a success :-)

Candles lit, table set, dessert in the frig, meal in the oven, kitchen cleaned-up, wine set out, ok I'm ready. It was also not to bad of a day weather wise, I think we reached 52 degrees!

I went out earlier in the afternoon and gave Anna a bath, she was a smelly girl. While she doesn't like to come when called for a bath, she will hang her head and allow you to walk her with lease to the waiting tub. Usually themanwhoholdsmyheart will lift her up and put her in, I am not able to put the whole dog in at once, so I put her front legs in first, then lift the hide quarters and pushed forward! It was pretty funny, Anna was not amused. But she does sit nicely in her bubbly bath and allow me to lather, rinse, and repeat, rinsing that is, until I hear the squeakiness of soap all rinsed away, then I have her hop out and rinse with just the hose. By the way the hose is hooked up to the sink in the washroom, so I have warm water for the whole procedure, it's the only way to give a winter bath! So now she is clean and I am not!!!! If you've ever given a dog a bath you know how much they shake!

Back to my meal it was wonderful! We had a great bottle of Merlot and a variety of olives, from the olive bar at Dillons, while the dish was in the oven. About 15 minutes before the dish was ready, I put on the water for the angel hair pasta, then we had a mixed greens salad with greek dressing, oh and I had Chocolat, the soundtrack CD from the movie, playing too. So now it's time for the main dish, I made Chicken Parmesan from foodwishes.blogspot.com video recipes with Chef John website. It was easy and so good, at least that's what most of the reviews said and I'm happy to say they did not stear me wrong, it was very good and very simple to assemble. No frying involved! For dessert I also used a video recipe from the same site, Tiramisu Chocolate Mousse!!!!! It was sooooooo good(my eyes are rolling back in my head)!! My only problem with the site recipes is that because it's a video recipe you don't get a print out of the procedure, only the ingredients, so I print it out and write my own notes as I watch it over again until I think I understand the steps. I know some of you can cook with your laptop in the kitchen, not me I just know I will have some mishap and ahhhhhhhh*%$@?
Themanwhoholdsmyheart loved the meal, me too! It was a bit BC(beforechildren), almost like dating again! Most of our evening meals are at the coffee table, watching Squeal (that's from our childrens early Sesame Street days) of Fortune, you know Wheel of Fortune and trying to guess the phrase before the tv contestant. Themanwhoholdsmyheart usually gets it seconds before me, agh (numbers are more my thing, remember sodoku) anyway.... Sorry I didn't get a single photo of the food I thought of it afterwards, like usual, and a martini glass with chocolate mousse smears just seemed cruel to publish!!! Hehe
Hope you all had a great VD with your sweetie! Oh and I should tell you themanwhoholdsmyheart gave me a dozen red long stemmed roses!! aahhhhhh

Why does it always seem to be Monday?

Are there more Mondays in a week, than I remember? The weekends always pass so quickly and then oh no it's MONDAY again! Ahhh
Yesterday themanwhoholdsmyheart and I went to the theater to see "One for the Money" it was pretty good, he even enjoyed it! I've read all 18 of the Stephanie Plum series and just love the characters of Grandma Mazer and Lula. We also saw the trailers for "This Means War" a romantic comedy starring Reese Witherspoon, Chris Pine and Tom Hardy and for "The Hunger Games". I've read the Hunger Game trilogy and found it to be great read, even though not my usual pick. Both trailers have enticed us to return to the theater to view the movie!! I'm encouraging themanwhoholdsmyheart to read the first book of the Hunger Games series just so he can get the full background info. I hope they do it well, as I said the trailer looks promising!
Oh yea themanwhoholdsmyheart just called and he's bringing home a Papa Murphy's pizza tonight!
=) It's pizza and beer! No cooking! Great to have the night off since tomorrow evening I have a special valentine's dinner planned! I'll post the menu tomorrow when I'm sure he won't be reading my blog as I want it to be a surprise!
On a final note so happy to see Adele receive so many grammys last evening.  I have her CD "21" on my mp3. I added it for "Rolling in the Deep" but have found so many more that I enjoy too. Like "Set Fire to the Rain". Her voice is amazing!!!

Still winter, baaahhh #$%^&?!

I tried to get back to my posting several times but either the computer was busy or I was!! I feel sort of caught up for a bit, at least with the laundry and vacuuming, so tomorrow it's a sewing day!  I'm armed with a new bottle of Mary Ellen's Best Press, Lavender Fields scent, it fills my sewing room with such a wonder smell, nice... But do I sew little houses or corn & beans blocks, hmm both are fun, hmm... I know, I'll sew houses in the morning and corn & beans in the afternoon!! Yes I'm a diplomatic thinker! he he

I also have an addiction to Sudoku puzzles! Anyone else?? I started back when #2Son was on swim team and needed a way to pass the time between heats, that was back in '06. Now I buy the Will Shortz books of 200, the first 100 are "difficult" and the second 100 are "beware! very challenging". It takes me months to do the whole thing, some I get in a matter of minutes, some I struggle with, sometimes I get tired and stop entirely for months before the interest returns again. So when we travel I take along my case of Yo-yo's, (you sewers know the kind I'm talking about, not the disc on a string thing) and my sudoku book, and sometimes a paperback that I've been saving for just the occasion, that's by car. If it's air travel than just the books as i don't want the hassle of bringing scissors and needles on a plane, even the little travel size ones.

I tried to publish this post about 5 hours ago but "the powers that be" our Internet connection failed so one last try before bed. Nightie Night Sweet Dreams

So much (not sew much) has been happening!

I made a funny, get it so not sew! I know pretty lame but that's me on my, let me think 3rd cuppa this morning!! Goood coffee! ;-} Well I may be back at the sewing machine by the weekend!!! Today is cleaning, laundry and pick-up all the stuff not in the place where it belongs, but sorta looks like it belongs there since it's been there for a while and blends in! I'm on the down side of subbing at the library, next Monday, Feb. 6 , should be the last unless the director's return flight gets delayed then it will be Tuesday, too.  My Mom's surgery went well last Wednesday and her stay with us from last Thursday thru Sunday helped her get use to walking on crutches. Now she's back home getting lots of TLC from her friends! Mom's very independent and likes her busy volunteer life so I know while the crutches have temporarily slowed her down, when the cast comes off, she'll be back to "the boot"( more mobile for therapy and contiued recovery) and all her activities! Also #2Son came home to get his car worked on by themanwhoholdsmyheart, only to have the car not make the sound that was cause for concern, isn't that always how it goes! It was great to have him back for a quick visit and a family meal around the table.

Very soon, in the next few days, I need to go grocery shopping and to the local quilt shop to get that Mary Ellen's clear starch, I'm really missing sewing on those little houses.  Oh and my new iron came, in just 2 days!!! It's so pretty, shiny and wants to im"press" (hehehe) me with it's abilities! Oh yea coffee good :-)  We're suppose to get rain on Friday, so not really wanting to do shopping then, probably tomorrow. My shopping trips are not those of city folk, where you hop in the car and pick up a few things then back home, oh NO! Mine consist of a full day of errands too! We live about 30 miles from our major shopping destination, Salina. I usually have a list strategically numbered to make best use of my time and the gas tank. The Mall, which includes JoAnn's and JCPenney's, then Hobby Lobby, Aldi's, Walmart, and Dillons. Other stops are on occasion such as thrift store drop-off, recycle drop-off, bank, library, coffee shop (when caffeine calls), etc. you get the idea. It's always a full days worth and then ends with only me unloading the car. ugh! Sometimes I lunch with themanwhoholdsmyheart, since that's also where he commutes to for his job. That's always a nice way to break up the day and get some libation to fortify me for Walmart shopping, I loathe Walmart shopping. Big UGH!

I'm sort of looking forward to the Super Bowl, since college football is over. I really enjoy watching college football, especially my Wildcats! Hope the commercials are good, I think they've been fair to poor the past few years, my favorite were always the Bud-wis-er frogs from many moons ago!!
